Stability of Surco Folding Cargo Carrier Part # 52018F
Question:
Looking at 52018F or similar folding hitch rack. Have concerns from watching video that rack can flex/wobble/wiggle when installed from side to side when running down the road. What construction stability measures have been incorporated to prevent this from happening.

Expert Reply:
The hinge point on Surco Folding Cargo Carrier, part # 52018F, is gusseted on either side with plate steel to keep it from wobbling. These carriers do not wobble any more than a fixed carrier would. Usually the wiggling comes from the shank of the carrier that is inserted in the hitch receiver. There are devices and locks available to prevent this from happening if it is a problem and they can be found on a page I have provided a link to below.
