Break Away System Preventing Brake Controller From Reading Trailer

Question:

Is this switch electrically in the path of the normal brake wiring. If it is old and dirty can it affect the resistance in the brake circuits causing a nc to show up on the electric brake controller?

Expert Reply:

The break away switch is wired to the brake output circuit. If the wiring connecting the break away kit to the trailer is damaged or corrroded, it will prevent the brake controller from reading the the trailer connection.
