Which Proportional Brake Controller for Is Best for Towing With a 2001 Ford F-150

Question:

I have a 2001, Ford, F150 that I am using to pull a Sixteen Foot, dual axle, flatbed trailer. I am moving some furniture and other houshold goods for my uncle from South Dakota to Missouri, so I am in need of a brake controller. I have narrowed my search down to either the Tekonsha Prodigy or the Valley Odyssey. I am leaning towards the Valley unit as it appears to have greater flexibility in mounting, however the bulk of the reviews seem to favor Tekonsha as a better unit. I have limited experience with towing a trailer long distances and have never used a brake controller before, so I am asking the experts, Which one should I choose? Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my question.

Either brake controller is a excellent choice for towing a trailer with electric brakes. The Tekonsha Prodigy, Item # 90185, is our best selling brake controller and I believe people like the visual style the controller has. The Valley Odyssey, item # 52810, is also an excellent brake controller and is next in line behind the product for sales. If you will need to mount the controller in an awkward position or at a steep angle I would definitely recommend the Odyssey over the Prodigy unit. Just remember that when towing, with either controller, you will need to adjust the controller to the varying load you are carrying on the trailer and road conditions. Your adjustment will be different when empty than it is when loaded and will be different again if you haul a heavier load. If you use our Hitch-Hunter on the left side of our home page you will be able to select either one of these brake controllers with the proper vehicle specific wiring harness for your truck.
