Question:
I have a 2005 Dolphin RV on a Workhorse W22 chasis. How do I wire the controller?

Expert Reply:
The controller will wire to your vehicle just like it would to any other. Brake controllers are not vehicle specific, they will work with virtually any vehicle. You will need the trailer connector for the rear bumper, a 7-way is common for most trailers with electric brakes. The controller will have four wires, the white ground wire would need to be extended and ran to the negative battery terminal. The black wire would run to the positive battery terminal, via a 20 amp (part # 9506P) or 30 amp (part # 38630) circuit breaker, depending on which is specified by the brake controller instructions. The blue wire which carries the brake output voltage, would be extended to the rear of the vehicle and attach to the trailer connector, and the red wire attaches to the cold side of the brake stoplight switch. The stoplight switch is located at the top of the brake pedal, and can have many wires coming out of it. Use a circuit tester such as part # 40376 to find the wire that only shows current when the brake pedal is pressed, then tap the red wire into this circuit. To make the install a bit easier, we offer a Brake Controller Install Kit, Part # ETBC7 includes a 7-way connector, part # ETBC6 comes with a 6-way connector. The install kits include everything necessary to install a brake controller on your vehicle, right down to the zip ties needed to tie the wires up neatly. The circuit breakers I mentioned above are also included.
