Brake Controller Wiring Adapter for 2007 GMC Sierra, New Body Style

Question:

I have a 2007 GMC New Style. The truck has the factory towing package, but I need the wiring harness for the brake controller. Which part number harness will I need?

Expert Reply:

Beginning with the 2007 New Body Style, GM stopped using the plug in style wiring adapter. The tow package wiring is located under the dash, above the emergency brake pedal. The wires end in bare leads that can be wired directly to your brake controller. The tow package wires do NOT wire up color for color with the brake controller, so you will need to wire it as follows: the red tow package wire would connect to the black brake controller wire, the light blue tow package wire connects to the red brake controller wire, the black tow package wire would connect to the white brake controller wire, and the dark blue tow package wire would connect to the blue brake controller wire. If the tow package has an additional brown wire, it is for an illumination circuit and is not used. Tape the end of the wire and tuck it up out of the way.
