Choosing Ball Mount for 2 Inch Receiver with Correct Rise/Drop

Question:

So confused here. I have a 2 inch hitch on my Jeep cherokee and am purchasing 2 waverunners with trailer. What size/type ball mount do I need?

No need to be confused! This is a pretty easy process. To determine the rise or drop needed for your ball mount, you will have to make a few simple measurements. First, measure from the top of the hitch receiver to the ground. Then with the trailer jacked or propped up so that it is level, measure from the bottom of the coupler to the ground. The difference between these two measurements is the rise or drop needed. Choose the ball mount with the closest rise or drop, and you will be in business. You will also need a trailer ball. The coupler of the trailer should have the needed ball size stamped on it, most likely either a 1-7/8 or 2 inch ball. Make sure you choose a ball and ball mount whose weight capacity is greater than or equal to the weight of your trailer and wave runners. You will also want to make sure that the diameter of the shank on the ball you choose matches the diameter of the hole in the ball mount.
