Replacing 4 Way Trailer Connector

Question:

I have a trailer with 6 wires and my van has a 4 pin flat connector. someone before I owned the the trailer converted it from 6 wire to a 4 pin flat connector I had the unfortunate problem of having it ripped off how do I spice the 6 wires to the 4 wires and have the lights still work

Re-wiring your connector will be a fairly simple process. You will splice the wires from the trailer onto our 4 way connector, part # 18004. Match the wire colors, white, brown, yellow and green. Next take the two other trailer wires, and I would suggest taping the ends with electrical tape to seal them, then secure them with zip ties to trailer so that they will be out of the way and not damaged. You should use a circuit tester, like part # 3808, to make sure no other connections were lost or damaged when the connector was pulled off or when it was originally converted to 4 way. Due to the fact that you are wanting to use a 4 way, you will not have function of the reverse lights on the trailer. You will retain brake, tail light, and turn signal functions. You will not be able to use the 12 volt accessory wire on the trailer, usually black, nor will you be able to use the brake/reverse circuit, usually blue wire on trailer.
