Wiring 4-Pole Connector with 5 Wires

Question:

On the trailer male 4 pin plug some wires broke off. I purchased another 4 pin male plug, but the trailer actually has 5 wires. A green with brown, yellow with brown, and a white. How do I wire that to a four wire plug?

Very common question. Your trailer has the following wires, white for ground, green for right directional and brake signal, yellow for left directional and brake signal, and green/brown for the right tail and marker lights and green/yellow for left tail and marker lights. The running/taillight/marker circuit is split at the existing connector so one leg runs down each side of the trailer. Combine the two running light wires (the green/brown and the yellow/brown) and attach to the running light lead from the connector, and you will be good to go. Make sure your ground connection to the trailer (white wire) is securely fastened to clean, non corroded metal on the trailer frame.
