Running Lights Always On When Using a Powerstop Brake Controller

Question:

I use a powerstop brake controller. Everything works like it is suppose to, brake lights, left turn, right turn, electric brake. However my running lights are always on regardless of whether the vehicle is running or switched off with no vehicle lights on. I had this with my GMC truck and continue to have the same problem with a Chevy cut-a-way van recently purchased. The trailer is a Hudson dual axle. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Expert Reply:

Because the trailer has exhibited the same problem with two different vehicles, I do not believe the wiring problem is with the vehicle. The connector on your trailer might be wired incorrectly. If the running light pin on the trailer side of the connection is matching up with the pin for the 12 Volt accessory lead on the trailer connector on your vehicle, the running lights on the trailer would behave as you describe.
