Troubleshooting Reese Digitrac II Brake Controller that Will Not Read The Trailer 1999 Silverado

Question:

I had a Reese DigitracII Profesianaly installed on my 99 silverado using the factory wire harness. I plug my trailer in and still get the dc indication like its not there. Its an old 1970 KIT trailer but I cant find any problems with the wires on it. My brother says his cheap brake controler worked ok. Why wont it see the trailer when there are no wire problems evident?

If you have not been able to locate any cracked or broken wiring, you would next want to check the connector on the trailer and vehicle side for damage or corrosion. If you notice any green corrosion on the pins or sockets of the connector, the corrosion might have spread to the interior of the connector. This can prevent the signal from getting through to the trailer. Another possibility is that the brake magnets might be worn out. If you can see any of the copper wire through the face of the magnets, the magnets need to be replaced. You should also bench test the brake controller to troubleshoot the controller, to ensure that the problem is not with the controller itself.
