Wiring the Facotry Wiring Adatper to a Brake Controller on a 2005 Chevrolet Avelanche

Question:

I have the factory harness and your controller, truck has never had brake controller even thoiugh it came with tow package, When I plug in the factory plug I only have a hot red wire, when I hit the brake I receive no signal to engage controller? Hitting the brake should make blue wire hot according to video correct? I check at the panel where the plug goes in- nothing when brake is depressed, I think it is a factory orginal issue. If nothing else do you know what color wire I need to tap into on cold side of brake sw on the avalanche

Expert Reply:

It sounds as if you might have the factory harness wired incorrectly to your brake controller, the wire colors do NOT match up color for color. The factory harness would wire to the controller as follows, the red wire on the harness would attach to the black wire on the controller, the light blue wire attaches to the red wire on the controller, the black harness wire connects to the white controller wire, and the darker blue wires attach together. Try plugging in the harness and testing the red power wire on that harness with a circuit tester (part # 40376)to ensure power is reaching the controller. Then test the light blue wire, you should only get power on this wire when the brake pedal is pressed. The harness, when plugged in should complete the connection to the brake switch. You should not have to run an additional wire to it.
