Question:
I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 chassis flatbed prewired for towing. Connected Odessey brake controller. All lights, running lights, brake lights, turn signals work. The only problem is the Odessey brake controller doesnt seem to detect when trailer is hooked up so trailer brakes lock when truck brakes are applied. Determining trailer isnt detected by single dot on Odessey display rather than two dots in documentation. Thanks

The problem is most likely in your brake output circuit. The test signal given off by the Odyssey is not reaching the trailer brakes for some reason. Use a circuit tester, part 40376 and test the pin for brake output on the trailer connector while a helper activates the brake override switch on the brake controller to determine if the signal is reaching the connector. Closely examine your trailer connector, making sure that none of the pins or sockets are damaged or corroded. If you see some green corrosion on the contact surfaces of the trailer/vehicle connection, there is a chance that some of the corrosion has spread to the interior of the connector, and could be preventing the signal from getting through. Trace the brake output circuit back from the trailer connector to the brake assemblies, looking for a broken or pinched wire. Your problem could exist in any of these areas, the challenge will be to track it down.
