Can I wire the Trailer Connector Directly Into Taillight Circuits on my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

can i wire my connector straight to my jeep lights without going through my wiring harness/95 jeep grand cherokee limited?if so do i have to have that modulite?

Expert Reply:

If you were to wire your connector directly into the taillight circuits, your trailer lights would not work properly. Your Grand Cherokee uses separate circuits to carry the turn signals and the brake lights. However, your trailer combines both these signals onto one circuit. The converter, part number 118349 is needed to convert the separate signals from the vehicle into the combined signals that the trailer can use. The modulite with the separate battery feed is needed to protect the vehicle lighting circuits from the extra power draw needed to operate your trailer lights. Instead of drawing the power needed through the lighting circuits, just the signal is obtained. This makes for a more reliable and safe connection.
