What is the Illumination Circuit on an OEM Brake Controller Wiring Adapter Used For?

I see the wiring configuration, but why no connection for illumination?? I have an 08 F-150 OEM harness to a Draw-Tite 5500 controller. It seems to be like what you have. I just need to be sure of myself. Thanks

There are some brake controllers that offer the option of having a backlit display or controls, the illumination circuit would be used for that. Most aftermarket brake controllers do not offer this feature. Your OEM harness would wire up as follows, the red harness wire would connect to the black wire on the controller. The light green wire would attach to the red brake controller wire, the white wires would connect together, as well as the blue wires. The brown wire is for the illumination feature that I mentioned.
