Connecting Surge Coupler to Reverse Light Circuit on 2008 GMC Acadia

Question:

I Have surge brakes on our trailer and the 5th blue wire on the car provides no power when backing up. The car manual indicates the wiring is not connected at a fuse somewhere, would you know where this might be located. Any help would be appreciated. Harry Hayes Your videos mention a converter?

Expert Reply:

That blue wire should be tapped into the circuit for the reverse lights on your vehicle. When you shift the transmission into reverse and the reverse lights are lit, the current will travel to the trailer coupler, releasing the surge coupler. There is no need for a fuse. Your vehicle does not need a tail light converter, your vehicle already has the brake light and turn signals combined on the same circuit.
