How to test electric trailer brakes by jumping power

Question:

I will be moving my 36 Park Model RV soon, however I dont have a tow vehicle here now to test to see if my brakes will engage. Is there a way I can somehow apply 12V to test my brakes, lets say by jumping power to the trailers connector ?

Expert Reply:

You should be able to use a 12V car battery to test the trailer brakes. Apply 12 Volts from the battery to the pin on the connector (pin number 2) for the brake output, and ground the negative battery post to the trailer frame. If they are functioning, this should actuate the brakes for you.
