How to Install Brake Controller on a 2000 Dodge Ram

Question:

my dodge ram 1500 has a 7 pin plug will i still need to run a wire from front to back or just plug in controller under the dash ? are there any fuses i need to install? if so where are they located and what amp will i need?

Expert Reply:

Since your Dodge Ram was equipped with the 7-way connector, all the necessary wiring should already be in place. You will need a wiring adapter, part number 20261. The brake controller would wire up to the adapter, then the adapter would plug into the port under the dash. The port is located on top of the small white box located on the firewall behind the emergency brake pedal. The necessary fuses should already be in place in the fuse block located under the hood. If you do not already have a brake controller, we offer a great selection at unbeatable prices. I would recommend a proportional controller, such as the Tekonsha Prodigy. I will include links to the brake controllers and the wiring adapter, which can be found below.
