Using the Center Pole for a Hot Lead

Question:

On a 7 Way flat pin trailer connector can I use the center pole connection to run a hot wire/battery wire instead of using the red/black connection? The 12 gauge red wire coming from my vehicle is so thick that it fits best into the center connection. On the diagram above in is marke as orange/auxillery. I though I should ask about this before I make any connections that might cause a problem.
