Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2007 Toyota Corolla
Question:
I have a wheelchair, 45 pounds in weight and I have a 2007 Toyota Corolla S car. I have a hitch on the Corolla, not sure if 3 or 4 but UHaul put it on to take a device like this that folds up when not in use. C18100 However Toyota the main company said the Corolla 2007 has a tongue weight that wouldnt take an 85 lb folding wheelchair platform and my 45 lb wheelchair, it would exceed their limit. Any help would be appreciated as my back cannot take lifting it into the Corolla any more! Sincerely,

When dealing with towing capacities for a vehicle the final authority is always the vehicle's manufacturer. If in your case Toyota says that your vehicle can't handle the tongue weight of your wheel chair carrier I can't recommend you attempt to carry it on a cargo carrier like the part # C18100 that you referenced. A side note here is that this carrier wouldn't fit the hitch on your vehicle as this is designed for 2 inch hitches and you most likely have a 1-1/4 inch hitch on your vehicle like the part # C11265.
If you checked the owners manual and you did have the capacity for a carrier and your wheel chair a better carrier would be the part # C18110 as it would fit the hitch on your vehicle.
You might double check with Toyota or check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine what the tongue weight rating is for your vehicle because based on how light your wheel chair is I would think you would be fine.
