Electric Brake Controller Installation on Dodge Ram Truck

Question:

I have a 2006 dodge ram 1500 with a factory 4 pin plug and i want to change it over to a 7 way. I already have the adapter from 4to7. Does my truck have a factory plug under the dash and if so what does it look like? Also if it has a factory plug then what do i do with the rest of the wires that are coming out of the back of the adapter? I know i have to ground the white wire to the frame but what do i do with the yellow, black, and blue wires? thanks

Your truck may or may not have a connector under the dash for a brake controller. It is usually a blue connector located just to the right of the emergency brake pedal. It should have 4 wires coming out of it that are labeled. I have included a link to a brake controller install page for Dodge trucks that should help you find the port if you have it. It will also walk through the installation process.

Without knowing exactly what 4-Way to 7-Way adapter you have, I cannot say for sure how it is wired. By virtue of the colors it is probably wired as follows: Black - to truck battery for 12V power, Blue - to output wire on brake controller, Yellow - optional and can be omitted, auxiliary circuit usually used for reverse lights. Make sure for the black wire that you use a 40 amp circuit breaker, part # PK54540, as to not over draw the system.
