will a Class 1 trailer hitch be able to support this bike rack on a 2009 Toyota Avalon? Thank you.

Expert Reply:

Yes a Class I trailer hitch would be able to support this bike rack. Just make sure you abide by the weight capacity limits of the vehicle, hitch and bike rack.

The bike rack can carry up to 2 bikes weighing a total of 70 pounds. Add the 70 pounds of bikes and the 38 pounds the bike rack weighs and the total weight of bikes and rack can be no more than 108 pounds. If your bikes weigh less, then use their weights to make your calculation

Make sure the tongue weight capacity of both the hitch and Avalon is at least the total combined weight of the 38 pound bike rack and the weight of your bikes. Most Class I hitches have a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds, so I would not be worried about the hitch. Check the vehicle owner manual to see what the tongue weight capacity of the Avalon is.
