Best Weight Distribution and Sway Control for 2009 Toyota Tacoma Towing 6100 lb Horse Trailer

Question:

I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 TRD Off Road with Towing Package rated at 650 lbs Tongue weight and 6500 lbs towing capacity. Im buying a horse trailer with empty weight of 3300 lb. For calculation purposes, assuming with two horses max 1400 lbs each, total weight 2800 lbs, which weight distribution hitch with sway control do you recommend that I buy?

The Pro Series SC Weight Distribution System, part # RP66153 would be a good choice for you. This system combines weight distribution with sway control, and is specifically designed for trailers with tongue weights ranging from 400 to 800 lbs.

The sway control performance of that system is outperformed only by the dual cam sway control system.

The Strait Line Weight Distribution System, part # RP66073 includes the High Performance Trunnion Weight Distribution System with the top of the line in sway control, the Dual Cam Sway Control System. This system is also rated for trailers with tongue weights in the 400 to 800 lb range.

If I had to choose between the two with price being no object, I would go with the Strait Line system. This system offers rock solid sway prevention, actually stopping sway before it can occur. The Pro Series SC system would work great for you as well, and it is a bit more economical.
