How to Wire Vehicle to Trailer Wiring On a Lexus GX 470
Question:
I want to connect a 4-wire flat plug to my Lexus 470 GX. The wires going to the adapter under the car are as follows: One black connector has 3 male plugs. It is about 1 inch wide and rounded. The wiring into the plug is Blue, Black, and White/Blue. Second plug is gray and actually has 4 female connectors. They are arrange 2x2. The connector is about 1 in diameter, although not perfectly round. The wiring into this plug is : Red/Yellow, Yellow, Blue/Red, Blue. Which wires should connect to the trailers green, yellow, brown, and white wires?

Wiring a 4-Way connector on your vehicle will require the use of a circuit tester, item # 40376, to find the correct wires to wire to the vehicle side of a trailer connector. You can check the wires going into the connectors you have mentioned with a circuit tester while you have a helper activate the turn, brake, and tail light functions in the cab of the vehicle. If these connectors do not contain the correct wires you will need to access the vehicle lighting functions at the back of the tail lights. Using the circuit tester find the correct functions and wire an Upgraded Modulite Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness, item # 119179KIT. This kit contains a converter to convert your vehicle 5 wire system down to the trailer 4 wire system and also has a power wire that is ran to the vehicle battery, via an inline fuse (included), to provide power for the trailer lighting and protect the sensitive circuitry on your vehicle.
