Troubleshooting Tekonsha Voyager That Only Activates Brakes with Manual Switch

Question:

brakes on camper work manually through switch but dont seem to be working when brake pedal is applied

Expert Reply:

For some reason, your brake controller is not getting the signal that you are pressing your brake pedal. That signal comes along the red wire of the brake controller. The wire should be run to the stop light circuit. This is either done by hardwiring up to a switch on the brake pedal or if your vehicle has a tow package there should be a port that you plug into that is pre-wired with the necessary circuits.

If you hardwired the brake controller, trace the red wire from the brake controller to the stop light switch and check for nicks, frayed wires, and loose connections. If you have a vehicle with a tow package, please let me know the year, make and model and I will try to provide some more help.

I have attached a link to the right on wiring a brake controller from scratch that you might find useful.
