What is the Life Expectancy of the Friction Pads on a Reese Pro Series SC Weight Distribution System

Question:

How long do you expect the automotive grade friction material to last? Also, with my 2wd 2006 Tundra, should I need an additional shank, or should the one included work?

Expert Reply:

There is no way of knowing exactly how long the friction pads will last. If you have everything setup properly and do not exceed the weight limits, the friction pads will last longer than the brake pads on your truck.

Their life is determined by how often you tow, what the road conditions you are towing on, the weight of the trailer and how prone the trailer is to sway. The only times we have seen these friction pads actually fail is when the capacity was exceeded. The heavier the trailer is and the more it sways the faster the pads will be used up.
