The part you were looking at will not work with your 2000 Cummins Dodge. It is for later model years. I have included a link to the proper modules below. The one that I think you would be most interested in is part # EP30400.

Any time you alter the computer controls of a vehicle, there is a risk involved. Fortunately, Edge has designed their products to be simple to use and provide options for the hot-rodders and people like yourself that want a mild bump in power and fuel efficiency without being risky like a really aggressive computer tune would be.

Modern diesels have proven to be very strong and long-lasting and the mild settings that this Edge Mileage Max Module uses should not be enough to damage the motor. The module will make a few small adjustments in different computer parameters to get a bit more power without making drastic changes to any one computer parameter.

There are other aftermarket products that will help with fuel economy and power. We also carry air intake systems that will allow the engine to breathe easier on the intake side. The filters will allow more airflow than the stock style filters and the intake tubes eliminate some of the sound control and turbulence that the factory airboxes do. I have included a link to these below.

You can also replace the exhaust system with one that uses larger tubing with smoother bends and free-flowing mufflers. This will reduce back pressure on the engine and allow it to breathe easier on the exhaust side. It will also give your truck a throatier, louder exhaust note. The volume is directly related to the gas pedal, so unless you have a heavy foot, the noise will not be un-bearable in the cab. I have added a link to the exhaust systems for a 2000 5.9 Diesel. Just select the vehicle configuration that matches your cab and bed length.
