Installation Instructions for Trailer Brake Control on a 1996 Ford E-250 Van

Installation of a brake controller on your 1996 E-250 van should be pretty straight forward. There are 3 different situations for wiring on your van and you will need to use directions for the wiring on your van. If you already have the brake controller and it has blunt cut wires, you will need the Universal Brake Control Wiring Adapter Ford, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mercury, item # 20260, and splice it to the brake controller.

If your van has a factory installed 7-Way controller you can order the Tekonsha Voyager Proportional Brake Controller with Ford Adapter, item # 39510-3035P, and no other parts will be necessary.

If your van has a factory 4-Way connector then you will order the same controller, item # 39510-3035P, and connect to the same port under the dash. The difference will be that you will need the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, item # 37185, and you will have to run the blue brake feed wire from the brake controller back to the plug in the rear.

If your van does not have a factory connector then you will need to use the same brake controller, a 4-Way connector, item # 118344 and the Electronic Brake Controller Installation Kit, item # ETBC7 this kit will contain all of the wiring and circuit breakers needed to install a brake controller on your van. The blue wire will still need to be ran back to the connector.
