Hanger Kit Recommendation for a 6K Axle on a Tandem Trailer

Question:

I am trying to determine which hanger kit would be recommended for a tandem axle trailer with 6000 lb axles equipped with my particular springs. They are 1 leaf double eye springs and measure 25 1/2 inches center to center. Near as i can tell that matches your e46SR axle which I understand is a replacement axle for mobile homes, and they have probably just stretched out 1/4 inch due to wear. However, I couldnt find that any of the tandem axle hanger kits said they were compatible with the e46SR spring. I was thinking of using the #APT8 but want to know if you recommend one in particular. Also, why are the multi leaf springs recommended over the e46SR for most applications? Ive seen that mentioned in a few of your responses to other questions but no explanation as to why. One more question, my springs have a locating pin on the underside, which near as I can tell should be seated in the axle mount. But this would mean that the axles would be mounted under the springs as opposed to over the springs, which is how all your diagrams show it. Would this be correct? I do prefer for them to go over if possible, to lower the height of the deck.

There are two spring options that would work for you, the part # e46SR that you referenced or the 5 Leaf Spring part # e34SR. The only difference is that the # e34SR is a multi-leaf spring with a 100 lbs more capacity than the # SP-115275. Either would work fine for you, I would go with the # e34SR just because of the additional capacity, and with a multi-leaf spring if a leaf fails your trailer wouldn't be completely un-usable. You would be able to limp home to fix the trailer.

The Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # APT8 should work well with either.

The locating pin on the bottom of the spring is used to install into the mounting plate of the U-bolt kit if you were to install the axles above the springs (see pic). If you have 3 inch diameter axles you would want the u-bolt kit part # APUBR-9. Most likely this kit would be the correct kit for you since typically 6,000 lb axles are 3 inches diameter.

I attached an FAQ on trailer suspension for you to check out also.
