Trouble Shooting No Brake Lights on a Trailer Connected to a 1996 Dodge Caravan With 7-Way 30717

Question:

I installed this item per instructions on 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan for use with a T@B clamshell trailer. Everything works but the brake lights on the trailer.

The first thing we need to do is narrow down where the problem lies. Disconnect part # 30717 from the 4-Way that was originally in place. Using a circuit tester like part # 3808, clip the ground wire to the exposed post on the 4-Way and have someone apply the brakes. Stick the probe on the circuit tester into the post that is attached to green or yellow wire. If you get signal, reconnect part 30717. If you do not get signal, something is wrong with the wiring on the vehicle

As you face the 7-Way on the vehicle, use your circuit tester to check the flat pin at the 3:00 or 9:00 position. If you get signal then the problem is on the trailer. If you do not get signal, write back and we will try to narrow it down.

Since you have turn signal, the brake bulbs may be burned up. Check the bulbs to make sure they look good. Check the grounds as well and make sure they have direct contact with the metal frame. Sometimes paint can insulate and prevent a connection.
