Brake Controller Showing Intermittent Short Circuit Error Code

Question:

My brake controller indicates short circuit, it is intermittent. I checked magnet wirning inside drums and trailer wiring. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem

The short circuit error code indicates a short somewhere in the brake output circuit. As you have checked the trailer wiring and the magnet wiring, there are a few more usual suspects that should be examined. Because the problem is intermittent, I am guessing a loose wiring connection is the most likely culprit.
Make sure that the connection between the controller and the tow package wiring or brake output wire is securely fastened. Trace the output wire back to the trailer connector, if possible. Look for a pinched wire or worn or cracked wire insulation. Check the connection at the trailer connector for tightness and corrosion. Make sure the trailer connector itself is in good repair, not damaged or corroded. Examine the brake magnets again. Are they worn? Worn magnets can cause a short, as well. If you can see the copper windings through the face of the magnet, the magnets are nearing the end of their lifespan and should be replaced.
