Can I tow my trailer with the slider in the rear position? I have a 38 5th wheel and a short bed truck with a bite in the cab.

The purpose of a slider is to make it easier to maneuver a trailer into a camping stall or in a parking lot, when the vehicle is at a very low speed. A slider is not to be used in the rearward position while towing the trailer. The slider was not designed for that and it would be unsafe to use it that way.
If you do not have enough clearance when the slider is locked in the towing position, there are two available options. The first is to use a truck with a longer bed, but often times this is not a practical solution. Fifth Gear came up with the Sidewinder to fix this problem. Instead of the pivot point being the fifth wheel hitch, the Sidewinder converts the pin box into the pivot point.
I have included a link to the page with our Sidewinder systems. Check your trailer and find the pin box make and model number, usually stamped right on the pin box. At the top of the page your pin box make, then the model.
