Question:
Im looking to purchase a trailer hitch and based on the resources you have available installation videos, quality photos of actual hitches, encyclopedia like explanations of systems Ive decided to purchase from you. My only problem now...I dont know which hitch to purchase. I have a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS with a 3.5L engine. Its listed max towing weight is 2800 lbs tongue weight 280. When I look at the 3 hitches that come up for that vehicle, Im not sure what the real difference is. They can all tow MORE then the max my car can tow. What is the benefit to a Draw-tite 41543 for $195 over a Hidden-Hitch 87419 for $155? Additionally the Valley V82241 states 4000 pound weight distribution. Does this hitch come with a weight distribution system? Or does it mean that this one can have a weight distribution attached Id assume 3204 or 3205 depending on trailer? Are the other two hitches not suited to the use of a weight distribution system? I appreciate your speedy reply so I can get my order in this week and hopefully put the hitch on before the snow flies!

I will start with the weight distribution question. The Valley hitch is the only one of the three hitches available, for your 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe, that has been tested for use with a weight distribution system, sold separately. You can use a weight distribution system with the Valley, item # V82241 hitch but the weight capacity of your vehicle will not be increased. The increase in towing capacity for the hitch would be increased, but not that of the vehicle. A weight distribution system such as the Single Bar Weight Distribution Kit, item # RP66069 or the pole tongue style, item # RP66071, would be an excellent choice if you are towing close to the vehicles capacity. Also it is recommended to have trailer brakes and a brake controller if your load will be over 1500 pounds. Now for the hitches available for your vehicle. The Hidden Hitch Class III Round Tube Trailer Hitch, item # 87419, and the Class III Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch, item # 41543 by Draw-Tite, are made by the same parent company and are, virtually, the same hitch. The Valley hitch, item # V82241, will install the same and has the added rating for weight distribution. I would recommend the Hidden Hitch model for your Santa Fe, unless you plan to tow a camper that is close to the vehicle gross weight capacity. If this is the case then I would recommend the Valley hitch and a weight distribution system like the ones mentioned to match the trailer you are towing.
