Expert Reply:

If your Draw-Tite Activator, part # 5100, does not work when you press the brake pedal in your truck, but does work when press the manual switch on the controller, then most likely something is wrong with the stop-light wire connection.

The brake controller lights when you press the manual switch which means it is receiving power from the vehicle and sending power to the trailer brakes. Since it does not activate when you push the brake pedal, that means the brake controller is not receiving the signal that the brake pedal has been pressed.

Follow the red wire from the back of the brake controller down to the the stop light wire that is connected to the stop light wire. Make sure that these connections are not broken, loose or frayed. If they are, re-connect the wires with new connectors.
