What Parts are Needed to Tow a 2004 Jeep Liberty Behind a Motorhome

There are 4 parts that are necessary to tow a vehicle behind a motorhome; base plates, towbar, safety chains or cables, and tail light wiring. I will discuss them one at a time and provide links to the product pages that have all the information on them that you will need. There are other parts that are either optional or are not required by all states.

The first thing you will need is a base plate kit for your 2004 Jeep Liberty. The base plates attach to the front of the car frame and provide mounting points for the tow bar. We have RoadMaster EZ style brackets available for your Liberty. If your Liberty has a brushguard, you will need part # 521426-1. If it does not have a brush guard, you would need part # 521423-1.

The next part will be a tow bar. Most of the RoadMaster tow bars would work just fine for you, just make sure that the tow bar you purchase will work with RoadMaster EZ Style base plates. I would suggest part # RM-501.

You will also need safety chains or cables. Most motorhome towers use vinyl-coated steel cables as chains may scratch the vehicle. I would suggest part # RM-645. They should be long enough and have the weight capacity for your vehicle.

Finally, you will need some sort of tail light system for the Liberty. You can re-wire the tail lights of the Liberty so that they will function when in tow. You would use part # RM-154. If you do not want to do the wiring, you can use a set of magnetic lights like part # ATL-LED.

These are the parts that you will have to have, however, there are several optional parts that you may want, or may be required by your state law.

Some states require a braking system to be used in the towed vehicle. I will link you to a page with more information about brake systems.
