What if I dont have a hitch installed? Could I adapt it to some kind of permanent receiver or have one made?

You do not have to have a hitch installed to use the Master Lock Wireless Backup Camera, item # 4843DAT, on your vehicle. You can use a four wire loop, item # 9653P, to wire the camera to a 12 Volt circuit and keep the removeable feature of the camera. The camera has a magnetic base for mounting to vehicle surfaces, or you can fabricate a mount for your particular situation.

If you are using the camera for a backup camera primarily then I would splice into the reverse light circuit behind one of the taillights and ground the other wire from the two wire loop. If you are using the camera for more long term viewing then, I would find the taillight circuit behind one of the taillights. This will allow you to use the camera at any time by simply turning on the running lights on your vehicle.
