Is There a 7-Wire to 7-Wire Cord Kit Similar to the Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Cord Kit

Question:

With a wiring for stop, turn, and running lights along with a future Brake System I feel I need 7-wires running from my Motor Home to my jeep. Its hard for me to understand why Roadmaster does not make a 7-wire to 7-wire cord kit? Am I missing something? As an expert do you prefer the Plastic or the Die Cast 7-wire connectors? Is there a brand that seems to cause fewer problems than the others? Thanks for your help Ill be looking for your response.

Towing your vehicle behind your motor home should not require a 7-Way to 7-Way connector to make the connection between them. You will only need the four wires for stop, tail, left turn/brake, right turn/brake and ground to operate the vehicles lighting and for a braking system you will need two wires at most which is 6 wires. You can definitely build your own if that is the way you want to go.

I would use the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Socket - Vehicle End, item # PK12707, and two of the the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector - Trailer End, item # PK12706 connectors to build the cord needed. The plastic connectors are durable and lighter so they will be easier to work with. If you are worried about damage from rough treatment then the die cast models would perform better. Most of the trailer connectors are very good quality and with just a small amount of dielectric grease, item # 11755, applied once in a while corrosion will be eliminated.

Your towed vehicle with added braking system will only require 6 functions at most and the round connector on the RoadMaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Straight Cord Kit, item # RM-98146-7, is smaller, less obtrusive and promotes more mounting locations on the front of the vehicle. The RoadMaster cord is also built to withstand the elements, oil and chemicals that are encountered on the road.
