Brake Controller Installation and Recommendation for a 1996 Ford Bronco

Question:

At this time we have not had he chance to video a brake controller installation on a 1996 Ford Bronco.

I do have some information that will be helpful though. If your Bronco has a factory 7-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle or if you have a factory tow package there will be a plug along the left frame rail behind the rear bumper. If this plug is present then you can look for a brake controller connector under the dash above the transmission hump. This connector will match up to the Universal Brake Control Wiring Adapter Ford, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mercury, item # 20260. If the plug is not at the rear of the vehicle there will not be a brake controller connector under the dash.

If your truck does not have any factory tow wiring installed then you will need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, item # 118350, in addition to the, item # ETBC7, 7 and 4 way installation kit. You will need to hard wire the brake controller to the correct vehicle circuits. The Red wire will need to be wired to the stop light switch coming from the brake pedal switch, the black wire will need to be wired to 12 volt power, the white wire is grounded and the blue wire is the trailer brake feed that goes to the 7-way vehicle end connector.

I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy Proportional Brake Controller for your vehicle. This our best selling proportional unit and it will help conserve the brakes on the trailer and vehicle by applying the appropriate amount of braking pressure to the trailer brakes based on your settings and the speed which the vehicle is decelerating. Time delayed brake controllers are set to a particular brake pressure and the same pressure is applied when the brake pedal is pushed no matter how fast the vehicle is slowing.
