No 12V Power to Brake Controller on a 2001 Ford F-250

Question:

Purchased controller and wiring harness and installed per your video instructions they are great by the way. I have the factory trailer package with the 7 pin round connector. I have used the four wire connector for some time and it works OK. I do not have 12 Volts at the controller. Ground tested OK. Checked a fuse that the owners manual indicated and it looked OK. Can you confirm which fuse I should be checking? Search of the web makes me suspect that I might be missing a relay. All of the info is related to the 12v trailer charge output on the trailer connector. Not sure if this controls power to the brake connector. Can you tell me which relay I need to look for and where it is located?

If the truck had a factory 7 way installed at the factory, it should be plug and play. If the 7 way was installed at the dealer, it may be missing a fuse or breaker. The 12V trailer charge is a separate circuit. That is to supply power directly from your trucks electrical system to a battery or some electrical system on a trailer. The brake controller is on a circuit by itself.

Remove the brake controller plug from the port underneath the dash. Check to see if the pin where the black wire connects to is getting 12V. If not, there is something wrong between the battery or fuse block and the port under the dash. It could be a fuse or breaker. Most brake controllers are on a 30 amp system. Chances are there is a blown or missing fuse somewhere on the fuse block.

If you are getting power to the port, but not to the brake controller, check the harness and make sure the wires have not pulled themselves off the pins. If they have you will need to replace the harness using part # 3035P.
