To determine the mounting location for the brackets and rails in the bed of your 2003 Dodge Ram 3500, you will need to measure 28-3/8 inches from the rear edge of the truck bed towards the truck cab. This will be the location of the rear most edge of the rear rail. This measurement will get you started and from there you will need to follow the installation instructions that come with the hitch.

For the 2003 Dodge 3500 you can use the CURT Semi-Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit, part # C16301-200, to complete the installation of the hitch on your truck, or the CURT Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit, part # C16420-204. The custom fit installation kit is a little quicker and easier to install compared to the semi-custom kit. I am including links to the installation instructions on both of the install kits. It will show you the measurements and locations of where to install the base rails in the truck bed.
