Question:

I have a Mazda 3 hatchback 2006 and am looking for a hitch and a bike rack. I have a Janis brand Comfort style bike - so there is not a straight horizontal bar, nor is it a womens style bike. The horizontal bar is angled down somewhat. So I am wondering if the Yamaha Doubledown hitch mount bike rack would work with this type of bike. It looked sturdy and easy to use. Or if the Rola NV2 would be more appropriate. I am looking at the Hidden Hitch 60201 as well. Any advice would be appreciated. I would like something that is easy for me to manipulate myself not very strong or mechanically inclined woman! Thanks!!!

The hitch you selected, Hidden Hitch Class I Trailer Hitch, item # 60201, is an excellent choice for your vehicle. This hitch, and all others recommended for your Mazda 3, is a Class 1 hitch and bike racks that are designed for a Class 2 hitch will not fit in the Class 1 hitch (see link). The two bike racks you mentioned will fit Class 2 hitches only. Be sure when you do select a bike rack that it will fit in a Class 1 hitch.

The best option for your comfort bike and car with a Class 1 hitch would probably be our best selling SportRack 2 Bike Hitch Mounted Rack with Wheel Mount Cradles, item # A30901, which will fit the Class 1 hitch. This rack is very easy to load and holds bikes with many different styles of frame very securely. Another option would be the Highland SportWing 2 Bike Rack, item # 5801200, which holds the bike by the wheels, is very light weight and assembles very easily.

Along with your hitch and bike rack you may want a locking hitch pin and cable lock. For the SportRack 2 Bike Rack the SportRack Hitch and Cable Lock - Keyed Alike, item # A32022, is a nice accessory to keep both the bikes and the bike rack secure. With the Sportwing bike rack the 10 foot Cable Lock, item # CAB-10, and the Tow Ready LifeLong 1-1/4 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, item # TR101, would work nicely.
