Tekonsha P-3, Part # 90195 Installed on 2003 Dodge Ram Not Reading Trailer

Question:

Dodge Ram 2500 2003 I moved a Tekonsha P3 from my 03 Silverado to my 03 Dodge. It no longer senses when I have a trailer attached. I found the Blue brake controler wire from the connector block under the dash to the 7 pin trailer connector was OPEN no continuity. I do not have a schematic of the truck wiring but was wondering if you guys could tell me if there would be a fuse couldnt find one inline or maybe another connector inline that might be the problem. I assume it is a bad wire but wish it to be something more simple. Any help would be appreciated. I bought the P3 controller last year and I bought the Dodge adapter cable from etrailer last month. They seem to be working fine.

I believe the problem you are experiencing is in the trailer wiring or the trailer connector, not a fuse issue. When the controller is not reading the trailer when it is connected, there are a few usual suspects to check. First, make sure that the trailer connector on the vehicle or the trailer is not corroded or damaged. If you can see green corrosion on the sockets or pins, the corrosion has possibly spread to the interior of the connector and is disrupting the signal from getting through to the trailer. Next, check the blue wire which carries the brake output voltage from the trailer connector to the brake magnets. Make sure that the wire is not broken or pinched and that there are no cracked or worn spots in the wire insulation which would allow the copper conductor to contact the trailer frame or other metal parts on the trailer. Finally, the P-3 requires a good ground connection. Check the grounding points on the trailer, where the ground wire from the trailer connector attaches to the trailer frame usually on the tongue, and also where each brake magnet grounds to the trailer frame. These connections should all be tight and not corroded.
