I was hooking up a friends trailer to my truck and when plugged in nothing was right. He said it never worked on his truck either. I got the right and left turn signals to work, but cannot get the tail lamps to work on the trailer and with a test light I cannot find the hot pin on my truck. Truck is a 2006 silverado and have used many other trailers on it with out a problem. It is a 7 pin flat connector plug, do you know which pin should be taillamps and which one should be ground, cause with taillamps on, I dont have a hot pin???

It sounds as if you might have a few issues going on at the same time. If you are not getting any signal at the pin for the running lights while the vehicle headlights are on, you probably have a blown fuse. The fuses that protect your towing circuits can be found in the power distribution box under the hood.
If the trailer has not worked on other trucks, there is most likely a problem it the trailer wiring itself. Starting at the trailer connector, trace each circuit back to each fixture, looking for broken or pinched wires. Check the insulation for cracks that would allow the copper conductor to contact the trailer frame or other metal.
