18K Fifth Wheel Hitch, Install Kit, and Relocation Bracket for 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500

Question:

I have a 2009 Chevrolet 2500HD with a 6 ft. bed. I would like to install a 5th wheel hitch in it. My question is, I would like to install the Reese 18K Select Plus 5th wheel hitch with round tubes, and the the Fifth wheel custom installation kit with rails for the 2009 Chevy 2500HD with 6 ft bed. Also my truck came with the IBC intergrated brake controller from the factory, will I need the Gooseneck and 5th Wheel relocation Bracket for GM? I would like to know if the items I listed is correct for my perticular truck? If this is correct is there anything I overlooked? Your help would be appreciated very much.

You are on the right track, the Reese 18K Select Plus with Round Slider, part # RP30083 and the Custom Install Kit, part # 50064-6008 are correct. You will indeed need the Relocation Bracket, part # 58318.

Another option would be to use the standard, non sliding 18K Select Plus Fifth Wheel Hitch part # RP30081 in conjunction with a Sidewinder. The sidewinder will provide an additional 22 inches of clearance between the front of the trailer and the rear of the truck cab, versus 12 inches with the slider. Using a Sidewinder will increase the chances that you will be able to negotiate 90 degree turns without the danger of the trailer contacting the rear of the truck cab.

To determine if the slider will provide enough clearance, use the following formula:

Use the formula below to ensure there will be enough space between your truck cab and trailer when executing a 90-degree turn.

(A + B) - C = Clearance
A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab (info can be found in install kit instructions)
B = Length of Sidewinder arm (or slider when slid to the rear) or for the Sidewinder, use 22 inches.
C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)

You can use this formula for both the Sidewinder and the Slider Hitch. If you come up with a positive number as the result when running the numbers for the slider, you will have clearance.
