Roof Rack for 2008 Mini Cooper+

Question:

Can you please, tell me what is the best roof system for a mini cooper with dual sunroof. I have been looking for the Yakima or the Thule but I want to make sure that I pick the right system for the vehicle without drilling anything on the roof or leaving scratches on the vehicle after removing the system. I am planning to carry a bicycle in the upright position on the roof, so I need to make sure sure that the system I will purchase, provide the kit and hopefully to be secured. Please, advise. Thank you.

We have two roof rack systems, Yakima and Thule, that will be very secure on your vehicle and do not require drilling to install. As long as you install these products properly they will not leave scratches or damage the vehicle in any way.

The Thule system will require the following items.

Thule Roof Rack Fit Kit for Aero and Rapid Aero Foot Packs # THKIT2145
Thule Aero - Roof Rack Support Feet # TH400XT
Thule Load Bars - 50 Inch Wide # THLB50

The Yakima System will require the following.

Yakima Q Towers Roof Rack Feet for Naked Roof # Y00124
Q78 Q Clips for Yakima Q Towers (QTY 2)(4 Needed Order 2)# Y00678
Round 48" CrossBars for Yakima Roof Rack System (QTY 2) # Y00408

Which system is better is a matter of opinion as much as actual performance of the roof racks, I cannot tell the difference performance wise from the installations I have done and seen. Your selection of carrier for the bike may be the best way to determine the roof rack system you will want to purchase.

Another option you could consider is a receiver hitch , item # 11160, and a bike rack like the Thule Roadway 2 Bike Rack, item # TH912XT, for your Mini Cooper.
