Compatability of Fifth Wheel Hitch in Reese Rails on a 2003 Ford

Question:

I just purchased a 03 F550 with Reese Goose Hitch serial# 012604 installed on bed rails. However I dont use gooseneck but fifth wheel application. My RBW 15k fiver hitch, that I have been using, will not fit in rails Reese?. I am impressed with the Curt Q20, 20k fifth wheel hitch. Will it fit the rails in my new to me truck? Thanks!

Expert Reply:

Your RBW 15,000 pound hitch should fit in the Reese rails unless they are installed improperly. When the hitch was installed on the F-550 it may have been tightened down with the gooseneck adapter installed and the rails are just out of position for your fifth-wheel hitch. If the hitch you have is not fitting by a small amount I would try to loosen the mounting bolts on the rails and then install the fifth-wheel hitch. After you have the hitch installed you can then re-tighten the mounting bolts and the hitch should then fit properly.

The Curt Q20 Fifth-Wheel Trailer Hitch - 20K, item # C16130, is an excellent choice for a fifth-wheel hitch and would give you added capacity if you need it now or in the future. The Curt Q20 does fit in standard Reese fifth-wheel rails.
