Extending Safety Chains for use of Folding 4 Bike Towing Rack on My 2001 Nissan Xterra

You will need to connect your safety chains to the safety chain loops on your trailer hitch. I would suggest using two of the Safety Chain Quick Links, item # 49135, and two of the 28" Long Safety Chain with 7/16" Hook, item # 2118-605-04, to extend the length of your safety chains when towing and using the bike rack at the same time.

If you find that the chains drag or hang too low and you cannot adjust the quick links enough to eliminate slack you can twist the chains somewhat to shorten the length. You could also take a few links off of the extension if you like.
