Should Torsion Bars Be Able to Fall Off My Weight Distribution Head Assembly

Question:

When turning a sharp corner backing into a driveway the torsion bar fell off. Is there a way of attaching the bars so they can not fall off? I dont want them to come off on the highway.

Expert Reply:

The trunnion bars on your weight distribution system should not fall out of the head assembly when driving down the road or during normal turns. When backing the trailer or turning very sharply the bar could come loose especially if the spring bars are not very tight.

You should check the weight distribution head and trunnion head for damage and replace them if needed. You should also review your set-up instructions (see link) and make sure the attachment is correct. I would also recommend that when you are maneuvering in tight situations that you remove the spring bars to keep from damaging the setup.

As long as you have the spring bars attached properly and there is no damage to the head or bars you should not have to worry about them falling off on the highway or during normal driving conditions.
