The main problem with using the adapter is that it will lower the tongue weight capacity of your Class II hitch by 50 percent, from 300 lbs to 150 lbs. The weight of the rack itself plus the weight of 4 bicycles would exceed this amount, causing damage to the hitch and the vehicle, and possibly the loss of the rack and bicycles.

I would recommend using a more conventional rack, such as the Thule Roadway, part # TH914XT or the SportRack Escape , part # A30404. Both are quality racks, both can accommodate 4 bicycles and both are designed to work with either a 2 inch or 1-1/4 inch (class II) receiver, allowing the rack to be swapped back and forth between vehicles with class II or III hitches.
