Question:

What all equipment will I need to set up my pickup, 2006 Chev 2500 reg cab/long wheel based,Duramax/Allison combination, for towing a 35 5th wheel trailer? Ill need the 16k hitch?, rail and custom bracket, and electrical hook-ups, but which ones?

The 5th wheel hitch you need will depend on the fully loaded weight of the trailer you will be towing. You will want to choose a hitch whose weight capacity meets or exceeds the weight of your trailer as it is typically loaded. If you do not already know the weight, you can find it by placing the fully loaded trailer on a vehicle scale, such as the kind used to weigh over-the-road trucks. The hitch you choose will also tell you which rails and brackets that go with it.

For the electrical hookup, you can use the Fifth Wheel / Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Wiring Harness, item # 31156, which plugs into the OEM wiring harness and provides wiring to be run to the truck bed for the trailer plug. You would also need the 7-way Plastic Car End, item # PK12707 to give you the plug.

You will also need a brake controller to activate the brakes on your trailer. We have a fine selection of brake controllers, all of which are universal fit.
