Parts Needed to Convert a Separate Tail Light Signal of a Honda Goldwing to Combined for Towing

Question:

I have an 04 Goldwing with a 5 pin wiring harness and I need to adapt to a trailer with a 4 pin hookup. I have installed an adapter converting the 5 to a 4 however, the brake light does not function on the trailer. Everything else works great. How can I make the brake light function using the adapter or is this possible? Your help is appreciated.

It sounds like the adapter you used dropped the brake light circuit when it went from a 5-way to a 4-way. Normally on a 4-way the brake light circuit is on the turn signal circuit. Motorcycles usually have a separate wire/circuit for just the brake lights separate from the turn signals so I believe that is where your problem is from.

I believe I have a solution for you, but not with using the adapter you have.

I would recommend you cut off the 5-way on your motorcycle. Wire in a tail light converter kit part # HM48895. This will convert your separate circuit tail light signal of your motorcycle to a combined circuit like what your trailer has.

You will need a circuit tester like our part # 3808 to determine the functions of the connector on your motorcycle and then need to wire it by function to the circuits of the # HM48995.

I attached an FAQ on trailer wiring for you to check out also.
